Trash Can Dream are a duo formed by New York-based Aussie expats Oli Nelson and Emma Stephenson.

Oli Nelson is an award-winning drummer with a flair for rhythmic innovation and creating quirky soundscapes on Ableton. Emma Stephenson is a pianist, songwriter and PhD student, winner of the 2017 Freedman Jazz Fellowship for Australian jazz musicians under the age of 35. The duo"s music blends modern jazz with electronic, indie songwriting. The band is named after a line in Elton John"s "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters", a song about the bittersweet polarities of opportunity and struggle in NYC, and being "thankful" for the "people that I have found". The couple claim to resonate with the sentiments expressed in this song, and regret that they couldn"t invoke Aussie terminology and call the band "Rubbish Bin Dream", but "you know, who would take a band with that name seriously?"
