Tibet House, located at 22 W 15th Street on the 2nd floor, is a sprawling complex that promotes Tibetan culture with a Buddhist shrine, exhibition space & library.Tibet House was founded at the request of the Dalai Lama, who at the inauguration in 1987 stated his wish for a long-term cultural institution to ensure the survival of Tibetan civilization and culture, whatever the political destiny of the six million people of Tibet itself.
Tibet House US maintains an extensive collection of titles on Tibet's history, culture, Buddhist philosophy and practice and serves as a premier NYC Buddhist center. Books, journals, magazines, newsletters, and audio visual materials on many facets of Tibetan and Buddhist culture are available to the general public in the library. The Library is open to the public Monday through Friday 12 - 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
