Great hotel for families, wonderful location and comfortable beds
The Evelyn will now be our "go to" hotel when we visit NYC with our family. I can't say enough about our stay at the Evelyn over Thanksgiving. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome. I loved the Art Deco decor in the lobby, as well as the new bakery and restaurant. We stayed for two nights with our young daughters in a room with a king size bed and sofa bed (in a separate room). This type of set up is usually very hard to find in NYC, unless you go to a chain hotel or want to pay thousands for a suite. It was very well thought out and perfect for our family. We arrived late and someone from housekeeping came right away when we called to set up the sofa bed. The staff was so nice and beautifully made up the sofa bed for our girls, and brought us extra towels. The king size bed was super comfortable and the blackout blinds helped everyone sleep. The hotel is in a great location. We were able to walk to tons of restaurants and stores, as well as museums and a show in midtown. I would definitely stay here again. I stayed here once solo before the completed renovations. The desk in the room makes it a good spot to work out of, or you can use the coffee shop/wi fi space downstairs

Outstanding hotel and location
We were so impressed with the quality of the staff from the moment we were greeted at the door. The room was clean, in very nice condition, but predictable small as is standard in New York City. The physical location can't be beat

What you need in NYC
Stayed here for only one night, but that was enough to form a very positive impression of the hotel. Service staff incredibly helpful, genuine and friendly. Location cannot be better, just a block from Madison Square Park and a perfect hub for walking around in the city or jumping a train. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable. Lobby smells great and the restaurant bar was buzzing. I can't opine about the food because I ate elsewhere (by the way - I highly recommend the Malibu Diner nearby, if you like old-school diner food and setting), but I'm looking forward to trying out the lobby restaurant next time I visit. Special shout out to Tashi (whom I had to stiff because I ran out of cash - sorry buddy!) and Dipak, for their assistance and bright disposition

Cosy Art Nouveau Hotel With Everything You Need
I was staying at The Evelyn with my teenage daughter for 6 nights. We had originally booked the Queen room via an online hotel booking site. But very quickly we discovered that its more suited for ONE. Its ok for 2 people if you don't have huge suitcase and don't plan to do much shopping. Also if you or your roommate is not neat (e.g. a teenager) you might go a little nuts staying there. I requested for an upgrade and were shown the King size bed room - which I felt would be perfect. However it was not available for the whole time I would require so we upgraded to a suite ( for an additional USD50/night) The suite has an extra living room (on top of the King size bedroom) The bathroom also had a additional bathtub. For what we paid, I think it was worth it. We tried the restaurant downstairs for the Thanksgiving special (USD30/pax), The portions were generous and we couldn't finish our sets, but the quality is good. The service is consistently professional throughout the establishment. This also includes the Cafe which is situated next to the front of the hotel lobby. It was nice to be greeted with friendly staff , freshly baked goods and nice hot coffee. Loved it. The cakes are lovely too - my favourite was the Mascarpone with salted caramel. I chose the hotel for the nostalgic and arty feel so I wasn't disappointed by the look and feel. It is a small hotel and my only complaint was that it was a bit of a wait for the only 2 (rather small) elevators. But since I was on holiday and wasn't in a particular rush, I wasn't very bothered. But it could be a problem when one of them broke down. Overall, the staff - from reception to maintenance and were all professional and efficient. I particular enjoyed interacting with 2 doormen. One is a Nepali national named Tashi and another is an Indian or Bangladesh (sorry I didn't get his name) who are very friendly and helpful. Their smiles were genuine and it is nice to get that when you're in a foreign place. They were attentive in that they remembered your previous days' request and would enquire how it turned out etc. The location is convenient for Subway and close enough to walk to major shopping areas eg Macy's etc. Oh the hotel Is right next door to the "Sex Museum" which I found interesting to walk pass daily. There are also many F&B outlets nearby. We also noticed there were several sushi places nearby as that's our favourite. We even ordered takeout for sushi and it was good and even the Miso soup arrived still warm (considering it was winter) I would recommend my friends to this hotel if this style and size is what they like. I would suggest the King size bedroom for 2 people
